Every time we get contact with a new person, we formulate a first impression on them.
Yes, the same way you have good and bad first impressions, people have good and bad first impressions on you, but don’t panic we will learn everything about it here.

So, how much time it takes for people to formulate a first impression?
5 minutes? 1 minute? 30 seconds? 3 seconds?

Well, I don’t want to scary you but according to a series of experiments by Princeton psychologists Janine Willis and Alexander Todorov, it only takes a tenth of a second to form and impression of a stranger from their face.
You can like it or not but, these impressions based on facial appearance are very important in how we treat other and how we get treated.
That’s why for politics is so important to have a trustworthy and competent face, because people will get a first impression on them in a blink of an eye, even before they say something.

However, this is a first impression based on facial appearance we still have a lot of things to discuss and mainly to teach you HOW TO CREAT A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION.

1-     BE KIND

In every situation of your live kindness is fundamental.
Here, kindness works as an “ice breaker”, because it awakes others sympathy and breaks possible resistance by them
If u like to be treated well, just treat well the others.

2-     ATTENTION AND EMPATHY

Everyone likes to be heard, so try to do that, it’s really important to you to show attention in what others are saying.
Try to not get distracted by noises and the environment.
And please… don’t use your cellphone!

3-     SMALL TALK

In a conversation you have to give and take.
Do some questions to the person that you are talking to and take a few minutes to learn something about them.
Who knows he likes bowling too, and next week you go play together.

4-     KNOWLEDGE

If is a job interview or something that you know the basic things that will be talked,
try to do some research in the topics that you feel like will come up in the conversation.
I will give an example
If you are going to meet someone that is really interested in football, like a referee or a football player, I hope u know what the offside rule is, because if u don’t… Do some research about it!

5-     APPEARANCE

For appearance, I am not referring to some specific style of clothes or brand.
I’m referring to the care that you give to your appearance, don’t go with messy hair, or without taking a bath. Take care of yourself.
When it comes to clothes, just analyze the situation and choose a simple and appropriate clothing.

6-     TIME

If it is a meeting, please, please, please, please be on time.
In a meeting that’s literally the first impression the person will have of you, because if you are late, they even before seeing you will formulate a bad impression of you.

7-     SMILE

Always keep a big smile in your mouth, a confident smile will transmit good vibes to the other person.
You know how they say, “Smile and the World smiles too”.

8-      BE YOURSELF

Even thought to create a good impression you have to fit in some degree.
Always be yourself, be Authentic!
Only this way you can be confident enough and build trust in yourself to cause a good first impression.

THE HALO EFFECT

So, where the Halo effect comes when we are talking about first impressions?

Well, The Halo effect is when you have an idea about someone before you meet them.
It is like first impression and when you meet the person you will search for the characteristics that you already had in mind.
Let me give you some examples

If a boss doesn’t know his worker but know that he arrives on time every day, he will consider him someone competent even before he meets him.

Or

If you see a picture of someone and you think that person is attractive, you will think that person is nice and kind, and when you meet them you will automatically search for that good characteristics.

This way we understand the relation between the Halo effect and first impressions
I hope you take these tips well
And remember
You don’t have a second chance to do a good first impression.
