How can NLP help athletes in Sports success? by Afonso Tavares

If an athlete wants to win nowadays is important to be able to use and manage is mental attitude. This factor is determinant in local or world class athletes, so teams and athletes by themselves started to invest in sports psychology. Sports psychology was born in Germany in XX century by the Dr. Carl Diem, is a multidisciplinary is based on too many fields. It connects of how psychological factors affect performance and how participation in sports affects psychological and physical factors. One of the practical thoughts that sports psychologists have build up is body affects mind and mind affects body.

For example, if you are in a game a player from a opposite team starts to irritate you, your level of concentration may go down. NLP can help athletes with that by managing mind-body in the goal to athletes improve is performance.

A big number of athletes use NLP without knowing, if is necessary to athletes increase and maintain is level of concentration, athletes need to know to do that. Athletes call a ritual before competition, but for example to many athletes loves to listen music before competition, NLP calls that an anchor. Anchor is an association learned between a certain mental state and specific interrupter. An interrupter can be visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Most of athletes use an auditory interrupter to be focus, but you can use many hands gestures to be in mental state you want. Sometimes athletes need to be calm down, and NLP can help them to figure out an interrupter for them to be calm when they use them. In this way, NLP can create a winning mindset in the athlete mind.
