Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a different form of intelligence
that does not relate necessarily to knowledge, however, it measures how
intelligent you are in terms of your own emotions. Having high EQ means you can
handle not only well your own emotions, but you can handle well other emotions
too. Essentially, in order to have high EQ you must understand emotions and how
they impact us as individuals.
However, how do people measure high EQ? It is not easy,
however, there are some signs that can indicate that you have high emotional intelligence.
Here are some of the main ones:
1. You think about your feelings.
Essentially this means that you take time to think about the
way you are feeling, how you handle these feelings is significantly important
for you. In addition, you reflect upon what you are feeling rather than simply
identifying emotions, as I said in the beginning, emotions have an impact on
us, if you can understand this impact that normally means you have high EQ.
2. You pause.
2. You pause.
When having a strong emotional moment, you stop to think
about how these emotions will impact your imminent acts and reconsider them.
3. You benefit from criticism.
Not many people can handle feedback well, especially if it
is negative. However, someone with high EQ can control his emotions, even if
they disagree and take the criticism as an opportunity to learn from others and
understand how they view him.
4. You demonstrate empathy.
It is not easy to show empathy for others, especially if
they do not deserve it, however, it is extremely difficult to dig deeper and
attempt to understand someone else’s position rather than just your own.
5.You show authenticity.
Many times, people lean towards saying things they do not
truly believe in or deviating from the truth, being constantly authentic and
expressing yourself in ways you truly believe in, is a big sign of high EQ.
